Swakopmund is Namibia’s largest coastal town, situated between the waves of the Atlantic ocean and the majestic dunes of the Namib Desert. This seaside resort is considered to be one of Namibia’s top adventure destinations, set among breathtaking natural landscapes while showcasing rich cultural remnants from it's German colonial past. With a wide variety of activities ranging from motorbiking to sandboarding in the dunes, plenty of great dining options and a unique blend of European-style architecture you will be sure to marvel in it's uniqueness.

The harbour town of Walvis Bay (meaning The Bay of Whales) is 30km south of Swakopmund. In it’s own right the town is pleasant enough, mostly around the waterfront and along the lagoon esplanade. Unlike Swakopmund, Walvis Bay came under British control during the First World War and as a result it is architecturally lackluster compared to it’s German-influenced northern neighbour.
Nevertheless, the area around Walvis Bay is home to many beautiful natural attractions which include one of the largest flocks of flamingos in Southern Africa. Walvis Bay offers a quieter, more intimate experience of the Atlantic Coast and its rich bird & marine life can be explored by catamaran cruise. The town also hosts a number of great restaurants and is home to one of the highest sanddunes in Namibia.
